Forty-one (17.6%) of 233 adult Echinostoma revolutum implanted into the coeloms of 14 chicks were recovered live 1 to 5 days post-implantation. Coelomic-flukes were attached by their acetabula to the peritoneal lining and appeared to graze on the lining. E. revolutum in the chicks' intestine became ovigerous in 9 to 12 days. Six to 8-day old preovigerous flukes maintained in the coelom for 4 and 5 days did not become ovigerous indicating that this environment was suboptimal for their sexual maturation. Thirteen-day old ovigerous flukes survived free in the coelom or encapsulated in the liver for up to 2 days. Worm eggs were abundant in the capsule. Maximal survival time of ovigerous E. revolutum encapsulated in the liver and the possible relationships between the live parasite and its capsule are not known.
